Wedding Dress Trends 2018

April 19th, 2018 Wedding IDEAS, INSPIRATION AND INSIDER TIPS

Want the inside scoop on wedding dresses and trends for 2018? We’re excited to share them with you! We’ll fill you in on what brides are buzzing about. We’ll also share hot trends from Bridal Market, and which of Moonlight Bridal’s new gowns are attracting the most attention.

If you love details in bridal fashion, you’ll adore our 2018 bridal gowns!

Sexy Backless and Low Backs

The trend of turning heads with a dramatic back continues. Over the past few years, several dresses really pushed the envelope. The backs were so open the bride nearly looked naked. Or backs dropped very low, just above the panty line! Too low for many brides.

Thankfully, back details of bridal dresses in 2018 are all about a subtle sexy look. The “U” shape isn’t quite as wide. The “V” shape is deep and dramatic but isn’t so low you risk exposure. This year, you have plenty of eye-catching options when it comes to back details: open, straps or illusion, for example.

·  Open Back: the bottom of the “U” or “V” shape drops at mid-back or upper-low back

·  Straps: criss-cross spaghetti straps or a lace T-strap are fresh designs

·  Illusion Back: an alluring look without showing too much skin. Options can include: sheer fabric, sheer fabric with a lace applique, or sheer lace

If you’re looking for a dress with a stunning back, we’re happy to report you’ll love gown shopping this year. Our most popular gowns at the national bridal show feature a sexy back (see photos below) or you can check out all of backless wedding dresses.

Trend Alert: keep your eyes open for “micro straps” this year. It’s a sexy update to a corset style we see trending right now. Instead of a traditional corset which is more about function, thin micro straps give a flirtatious touch to the front or back of a gown. This detail still provides a stunning fit, yet adds a “lingerie” element that is both delicate and feminine. Our Moonlight Tango collection features several dresses with this design detail. Two of our favorites include Style T833 (a playful spaghetti strap wedding dress with micro straps) and Style T923 (an elegant lace, satin and chiffon wedding dress with long sleeves). Micro straps are great for a Boho or vintage bride who wants to incorporate an element of vintage Victorian into their wedding.

Wedding Dresses with Sleeves are In

With extremely-sexy dresses hitting the runway the past few years, there’s a resurgence in wedding dresses with sleeves. Brides want them too. According to Pinterest’s 2018 Wedding Trends Report, searches for wedding dresses with “sleeves” are up 75 percent. BRIDES also featured many gowns with sleeves as current bridal fashion. Although long sleeves are dominating the sleeve style, ¾ sleeves and cap sleeves are making appearances as well.

Brides-to-be who look to celebrities for fashion trends probably noticed the brides who stunned us in wedding dresses with sleeves last year. To name a few:

·  Idina Menzel

·  Kacey Musgraves

·  Kate Upton

·  Keyshia Ka’Oir

·  Miranda Kerr

·  Pippa Middleton

·  Victoria Swarovski

Long sleeves can create a romantic, vintage or elegant look. Sleeves are helpful choice for a modest wedding or religious ceremony where showing off bare shoulders is prohibited. Don’t despair! If you have your heart set on a strapless gown, or an alluring style, you’ll cheer for these wedding gown trends in 2018: capes and jackets.

Cool Capes & Wedding Jackets

For the bride who wants to skip the veil, BRIDES showed a collection of chic capes for this year’s fashion. Short and long capes give a bride an absolutely regal appearance. Or can play into a fantasy theme like Game of Thrones. Pinterest reports searches for “capes” are up by 88 percent. To rock one of the edgiest wedding trends for 2018, go for a cape while there are fashionable options available.

If you’re looking for a topper to make a statement, or provide a little coverage for the ceremony, you’re not alone. Pinterest reports searches for toppers like “boleros” are up 163 percent. We love toppers. They’re stylish and functional. That’s why we’ve created wedding dress toppers, jackets and beaded capelets to suit a variety of styles. Even if your ceremony doesn’t require a topper, why not enjoy two different looks on your wedding day?

Top Moonlight Bridal Wedding Dresses 2018

We notice interesting trends in our new collection too. Many of our most popular gowns at the bridal show for retailers a few weeks ago share these similarities:

·  Romantically-sexy silhouette (fitted bodice with a gentle-flaring skirt)

·  Sheer illusion lace preference (when there’s a solid lace option)

·  Low neckline and low back

·  Straps or sleeves

These dresses embody “sexy romance” which we think is a great bridal theme for this year! Sheer lace and low necklines/backs are sexy. While gently-flared skirts and straps, or sleeves, are romantic. Put these together and you get sexy romance. You can play up either look with a coordinating hairstyle, make-up and accessories.

Are you looking for a different style? Strapless? A knock-out fit and flare, or a mermaid silhouette? High neckline or short tea length? We have those too. From sexy to modest, see our entire collection of Moonlight Bridal gowns to find your dream dress.
